Christopher W. Towe, MD

Charles A. Hubay Chair in Surgery | Professor of Surgery

Division of Thoracic Surgery, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center

Dr. Towe is a board-certified thoracic surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery, complex chest wall reconstruction, and surgical outcomes research. He directs the UH-RISES Research Program and serves as Director of the UH System Robotic Steering Committee and the Lung Nodule Center at UH Parma Medical Center.

Heather Cigoi, JD, MBA-HCA is a Research Division Coordinator in the Department of Surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where she supports research and educational initiatives, including the UH RISES outcomes research program. She provides project management, regulatory and IRB coordination, and operational oversight for studies ranging from outcomes research and registry development to industry-sponsored clinical trials. Heather is CITI certified in Good Clinical Practice and biomedical human subjects research.

Akul Arora, MD, MBA is a surgical research fellow at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Christopher Towe. His research focuses on outcomes-based investigations, large database analyses, and quality improvement initiatives across thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, and surgical oncology. He is pursuing a career in cardiothoracic surgery with academic interests in surgical outcomes, perioperative quality improvement, and healthcare systems leadership.

Omkar S. Pawar, MSCE, BDS

Clinical Research Biostatistician

Department of Surgery, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center

Omkar S. Pawar, MSCE, BDS is a Clinical Research Biostatistician in the Department of Surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He collaborates with surgical faculty and trainees on study design, statistical analysis, and outcomes research across thoracic surgery, oncology, trauma, and vascular surgery. His work focuses on large clinical databases, surgical outcomes research, and investigating disparities in cancer treatment.
